Daniela Giordano consegue nel 1990 la Laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica (cum laude) presso l'Università di Catania. Nel 1992 si trasferisce a Montreal, Canada per proseguire gli studi e perseguire i suoi interessi sulle tecnologie multimediali e cognitive e i processi di apprendimento.

Dal 1992 al 1994 frequenta presso la Concordia University, Montreal, Canada il corso biennale di specializzazione “Master in Educational Technology” e nel 1995 consegue il titolo accademico di Master of Arts discutendo la tesi: “Designing Learning Organizations: a Critical Evaluation of the Strategies and Policies Proposed in the Literature”.

Nel triennio 1995 - 1997 svolge il programma di dottorato in Educational Technology presso la Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, e nel 1998 consegue il titolo di Doctor of Philosophy,  discutendo la tesi: “Contributing to and Using a Shared Design Memory: Effects on Learning Analysis and Design Skills”.

Con decreto del Ministro dell’Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica n.790, del 24/9/98, il titolo di “Doctor of Philosophy” di cui sopra è stato dichiarato equipollente al titolo di Dottore di ricerca dell’ordinamento universitario italiano.

Nel 2001 è idonea nel concorso a Professore Associato nel settore disciplinare "ING-INF05 - Sistemi di elaborazione delle informazioni", e nello stesso anno viene chiamata dalla Facoltà di Ingegneria dell'Università di Catania a ricoprire il ruolo di Professore Associato su budget del MURST nell’ambito del programma denominato “mobilità dei professori” volto a incentivare le chiamate degli idonei provenienti da sedi (italiane ed estere) esterne all’Università chiamante. Le viene affidato l’insegnamento dei corsi di “Sistemi di Elaborazione” e “Sistemi Informativi” nel corso di laurea in Ingegneria Gestionale; “Basi di dati e “Sistemi cognitivi e Interazione Uomo-macchina” nel corso di laurea in ingegneria informatica. Nel 2013 consegue l’Abilitazione alla I fascia del settore concorsuale 09/H1 Sistemi di elaborazione delle informazioni (Area 09 - Ingegneria industriale e dell'informazione).

Attualmente titolare degli insegnamenti: "Cognitive Computing e Artificial Intelligence" (Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica), “Database and Web Programming” – modulo Database- (Laurea in Ingegneria Informatica).

Presidente del Corso di Studi LM-32 Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica dal 2013 ad oggi.

Vincitrice del concorso di I fascia del settore concorsuale 09/H1 Sistemi di elaborazione delle informazioni (Area 09 - Ingegneria industriale e dell'informazione) (ottobre 2016).
