Oct.2023- Full Professor with tenure  with the Department of Electrical Electronic and Computer Engineering, University of Catania.

MD in Electronic Engineering at University of Catania, 1994.

PhD in Computer Engineering at University of Catania in 1998, with a dissertation entitled “Open Issues in Time-Critical Distributed Systems for Process Control”.

Visiting Researcher at Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea, supported by a post-doctoral scholarship provided by BRAIN KOREA 21 Information Technology Program (2000-01)

Oct. 2001-May 2006: Assistant Professor with tenure at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Catania, with the Department of Computer Engineering and Telecommunications.

Since June 2006- Sept.2023, Associate Professor with tenure at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Catania, with the Department of Computer Engineering and Telecommunications.

In 2013, she got the habilitation as Full Professor according to the Italian National Scientific Habilitation Procedure (ASN 2013).

Senior Member of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.

Chair of the Technical Committee on Factory Automation of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society for the 2014-2016 term. Formerly, Chair of the Subcommittee 10 “Intelligent Sensors and Sensor Networks in Industrial & Factory Automation” of the same Technical Committee.

Recipient of the 2008 IEEE/IES Early Career Award.

Member of Subcommittee 65C of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Working Group 11- Real-Time Ethernet, Working Group 16 - Wireless Industrial Communication Networks and Working Group 17 - Coexistence in wireless industrial communication networks.

Nominated expert member for the Italian Electrotechnical Committee (CEI-Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano) in the Technical Committee SC65C “Digital Data Communications for Measurement and Control-Fieldbus for Use in Industrial Control Systems”, Maintenance Team 9, “High availability automation networks".

Responsible for the University of Catania for several Research Projects in the ICT area funded by the European Commission within the FP6 and FP7 or by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

Among them, the PRIN 2017 project SPHERE: Software architecture for Predictable HEterogeneous REal-time systems, funded by the Italian Ministry of Research.

Dr. Lo Bello’s current research activity mainly focuses on Real-Time Networks, Wireless Networks and Wireless Sensor Networks, Industrial and Automotive Communications. More than 160 papers published on the Proceedings of distinguished international conferences, journals and book chapters.

Serving on the Program Committees for several distinguished international conferences in the areas of real-time systems (IEEE RTSS, ECRTS, IEEE RTAS, IEEE RTCSA, RTN, RTNS) and factory communication (IEEE ETFA, IEEE WFCS, IEEE SIES, IEEE IECON, IEEE ISIE, IEEE INDIN).General Chair of ECRTS 04 Program Co-Chair of ETFA 05, ETFA'08, WIP Co-Chair of ETFA 06 and ETFA'09.

Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, the Journal of Real-Time Systems, the Journal of Real-Time Image Processing. Guest Editor for the Special Section on "Information technology in Automation'' of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (Nov.2011).Reviewer for several international journals, including the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL INFORMATICS and the Journal of Real-Time Systems, Computer Networks, IEEE Transactions on Computers.
