Alfio Dario GRASSO
Alfio Dario Grasso was born in Catania (Italy) in 1978. He received the laurea degree (with honors) from the University of Catania in 2003 discussing a thesis whose main topic was the design and hardware implementation of a novel pseudo-random bit generator.
In 2004 he got a grant to attend the Ph.D. course in Electronic Engineering at the "Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica Elettronica e dei Sistemi (DIEES)", University of Catania. In 2005 he was a visiting Ph.D. student at the Electronic Technology Group of the University of Seville, Spain, local advisor Prof. A.G. Carvajal, where he designed an IC containing three novel low-power low-voltage multistage amplifier topologies.
He received the Ph.D degree on January 2007 discussing the thesis "Nested Miller Compensation Topologies: Analysis, Comparison, Design and New Solutions", advisor Prof. S. Pennisi. In this work a novel design framework for three-stage low-power operational transconductance amplifiers was carried out and validated through the realization of several silicon prototypes.
In the years 2007-2008 he joined SIELTE spa as a hardware engineer in the R&D group, mainly working on stand-alone embedded systems supplied by solar energy.
In the years 2008-2011 he worked as a freelance engineer in the field of advanced analog and digital electronics.
In the academic years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 he has been appointed contract Professor of Electronics by the University "Kore" of Enna.
In the academic year 2009-2010 he has been appointed contract Professor of Electronics for Telecommunications by the University "Kore" of Enna.
In 2011 he joined the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica Elettronica e Informatica dell'Università di Catania as assistant professor. In 2015 he has been appointed associate professor.
In 2017 and 2023 he gained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for the position of Full Professor.
Presently, he held the course of "Electronic Systems mod. A" (8 CFU) and "Electronic Systems mod. B" (6 CFU).
Prof. Grasso is an Associate Editor at the IET Electronics Letters, at the Wiley International Journal of Circuits Theory and Applications and at the Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers and is a member of the editorial board of MDPI Sensors.
Prof. Grasso is a member of the board of the Ph.D. in Ingegneria dei Sistemi, Energetica, Informatica e delle Telecomunicazioni at the University of Catania and of the National Ph. D. in Micro- and Nano-Electronics at the Universty of Pavia.
Prof. Grasso is an IEEE Senior Member and serves as secretary of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) Central & South Italy Chapter.
Prof. Grasso has been advisor of more than 40 MSc dissertations and 2 PhD dissertation regarding analog design, with emphasis on low-voltage techniques, low-power multistage amplifiers, digital-to-analog converters and, and, more recently, power converters for energy harvesting applications. In these fields, he is co-author of more than 100 publications on international journals and conference proceedings. Presently his h-index, evaluated by SCOPUS, is equal to 24.
