He took his master degree in Transport Engineering in 1986 and PhD degree in Transport Technics and Economics in 2000.

Today is Associate Professor of Transport at the University of Catania, Department of Electric Electronic and Computer Engineering, where he hold the classes of Fundamentals of  Sustainable Transport Engineering and Trnasport Systems Management at the Civil and Environmental Engineering degree course. He is member of the board at the PhD course “Assessment and mitigation of urban and territorial risks”,

He is also Rector’s delegate for Mobility Management, delagate for Sustainability, deputy national coordinator of the Mobility Team  for the  Italian Network of Universities for the Sustainable Development (https://reterus.it/mobilita/). Besides he coordinates the Transport&Logistics subnetwork of UNIMED, the Union of Universities for the Mediterranean (https://www.uni-med.net/subnetwork-trasporti-logistica/)

His main research interests are in transport planning, sustainable mobility, planning for accessibility and demand responsive transport. He published more 96 indexed papers, with 1300 citations and h index 24.

He has been scientific responsible of many contracts for mobility plans and feasibility studies of transport infrastructures.

He was also in charge as Technical Manager of Circumetnea Railway Company, participating at the project of the metro line.
