Course on Other Activities - 3 CFU

Dear Students,

regards the 3 CFU of 'other activities' you can choose one of the following activities:

  • “Digital control for power converters” by STMicroelectronics (18 hours, 8 meetings, first lesson 16/05/2022)

The course introduces the fundamentals of digital control of power converters with a practical approach based on microcontrollers.  In particular, the course will be based on STMicroelectronics STM32 family of 32-bit ARM Cortex-M core-based microcontrollers and will use the related ecosystem, STM32 IDEs, providing a kick-start to its use in the industrial world.

  • “Electromagnetic FEM virtual laboratory” by prof. Nunzio Salerno (18 hours, 8 meetings, first lesson 17/05/2022)

The laboratory consists in the use of a free software (“Windows OS”) based on the finite element method (FEM), applied to the solution of an electromagnetic benchmark. An optimization algorithm will be then implemented and used together with the FEM software, to automatically solve the benchmark.

The course is organized in 6 meetings (that can be held in the laboratory of Electrotechnics or on the Microsoft Teamsãplatform), each lasting about 3 hours. A final event, in which students present the results of their activities, will conclude the course.

  • “Electric vehicles for the future of sustainable mobility” by proff. M. Cacciato, G. Inturri, G. Scelba (18 hours, 6 meetings, first lesson 06/06/2022)

The course consists of an introduction to the Sustainable Mobility Transition considering the issue of the actual versus the future mobility, then some consideration of the charging issue of Electrical and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles will be analyzed, finally, the more common drivetrains will be analyzed highlighting pro and cons of the different architecture.

  • Coursera courses, choosing one or more courses (for an amount not less than 18 hours) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering

Before attending a course, it must be approved by the coordinator prof. Salerno. A list of pre-approved courses is available here: http://wwwelfin.diees.unict.it/esg/didattica/3CFU/aa_21_22/ COURSERA.pdf

I invite you to send an email with your choice no later than May 13th to prof. Salerno that coordinates the course this year.
Prof. Salerno will organize the calendar of the lessons in accordance with the teachers.

Best regards

Prof. Mario Cacciato
