• Full Professor, University of Catania
• 30+ years of research experience in industrial communications, wireless sensor networks, Internet of Things (IoT), real-time embedded systems and networks, autonomous driving, and software-defined vehicles.
• Applications: Industrial and automotive communications, IoT, Smart Mobility, Wireless Networks for Real-time Monitoring applications, Smart cities, e-health, Industry 4.0.
• More than 200 papers published in international peer-reviewed conferences, journals, books.
• Recipient of the IEEE Anthony J. Hornfeck Service Award in 2023, of the IEEE Rudolph Chope Research and Development Award in 2021 and of the 2008 IEEE/Industrial Electronics Society Early Career Award.
• Senior Member of the IEEE since 2009.
• Secretary of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) since 2020.
• Responsible (Principal Investigator) for the University of Catania of several European and National projects.
• Responsible of the CINI National Lab on Embedded Systems and Smart Manufacturing, Catania Node (2021-now).
• Responsible for research collaborations/joint projects with companies such as STMicrolectronics, Magneti Marelli, Automation Service, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
• Author of 1 granted US patent (US2019/0199641 A1) and of 1 European patent No. EP 4278765.
• Involved in national and international standardization bodies such as, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), the CEI Italian Electrotechnical Commission
• Titular professor of 66 courses at the University of Catania (1998-today)
• Associate Editor of several international peer-reviewed journals.
• Regularly on the Technical Program Committee of IEEE Conferences in the areas of industrial automation, cyber-physical systems, real-time systems, being also Program Chair or General Chair of some of them.
