Davide PATTI

Associate Professor of Information processing systems [IINF-05/A]

He is an Associate Professor in the Scientific Sector of Information Processing Systems at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, University of Catania, where he also earned his PhD in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. His research focuses on the design and optimization of computing architectures, particularly multi-objective design-space exploration, low-power embedded systems, networks-on-chip, and neural network accelerators. His more recent interests include modular quantum architectures, indoor localization, and blockchain systems.

He has co-authored papers in international journals and conference proceedings, including work on the Noxim simulator and the modelling of the Bitcoin Lightning Network. He participates in the European QUADRATURE project on scalable quantum architectures and the rAIdD project on artificial intelligence applications for neurological diseases. He has also served as Local Unit Coordinator for the European Webinos project and held scientific leadership roles in national research projects.

His teaching covers computer architecture, IoT systems and technologies, and distributed programming, with experience at the University of Catania, Kore University of Enna, IIT Guwahati, and the University of Southampton. He has supervised doctoral students in Italy and abroad. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Access and has served as a Guest Editor, participated in programme committees, and held leadership and organizational roles at ACM and IEEE conferences.

My research focuses on computer architectures and embedded systems, particularly wired and wireless networks-on-chip, simulation, and multi-objective design-space exploration. I investigate energy-efficient deep-learning accelerators, approximate computing, and intelligent IoT applications, including indoor localization. My work also addresses communication and optimization in modular quantum computing architectures (QUADRATURE european project), alongside blockchain scalability and modelling of the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
