Expected Learning Outcomes

The student will be introduced to the main approaches, methods and problems present in Bioengineering and Synthetic Biology.

Course Structure

The course includes lectures, exercises, seminars, tutorials, video lessons.

If the teaching is taught in mixed or remote mode, the necessary variations may be introduced with respect to what was previously declared, in order to respect the planned program and reported in the syllabus.

Required Prerequisites

Mathematics and computer science skills.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance of lessons is compulsory.

Introduction to bioengineering and synthetic biology

Complex networks for genetic and protein networks

Modelling synthetic biology by parts, devices and systems

Introduction to systems biology 

Design of biological circuits

Genome and transcriptome analysis 

Metabolic engineering 

Computer-aided whole-cell design

Minimal cells 

BioCAD for drug repurposing and design

Engineering of microorganisms for bioplastic and biofuel production

Applications of artificial intelligence and deep learning in synthetic and systems biology and bioengineering.
