Gino Sorbello received a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Catania in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Communications from the Polytechnic of Milan in 2000. In 2002, Gino Sorbello became Researcher in Electromagnetic Fields at University of Catania. Since 2014 he is Associate Professor of Electromagnetic Fields at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering (DIEEI) of the University of Catania. His current research interests include the study of optical amplifiers and single-mode solid-state lasers, the integrated optics, the development of compact planar antennas and ultra-broadband antenna, the study of microwave components and computational electromagnetism with particular interest in the propagation in magnetized plasmas, the study of ion sources and linear particle accelerators.

Proposed Thesis and Internship activities:

1) Development of innovative accelerating structures.

In the framework of INFN DEMETRA (Dielectric and METallic Radiofrequency Accelerators) project

2) Microwave polarimetry for the determination of the electronic density in ion sources.

In collaboration with the National Laboratories of the South (LNS) of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) of Catania

3) Design of high frequency antennas arrays and development of wireless / radar techniques for indoor localization in industrial domotics and internet of things applications.

In collaboration with the ST Microelectronics of Catania

4) Computational electromagnetism.

5) Electromagnetic Band-Gap structures.
