SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

    The scientific activity has been developed primarily in the field of methodologies, tools and techniques for solving problems of electromagnetism by means of numerical methods, and has covered various research topics related to Electrotechnics.

        In particular, the scientific activity has had for object:

- the formulation, the study of the properties, the validation and the application to various classes of problems of an iterative n-dimensional integro-differential method of innovative character, which used in conjunction with the Finite Element Method (FEM) allows the calculation of electric and magnetic fields (stationary or quasi-stationary, in transient regime or in harmonic time regime, even in the presence of non-linear and/or anisotropic media) in domains of unlimited extension. This method, called FEM-DBCI (Dirichlet Boundary Condition Iteration), suitably modified (FEM-RBCI, Robin Boundary Condition Iteration), is able to solve problems of electromgnetic scattering in harmonic time regime.

- the calculation of stationary electric and magnetic fields in unlimited domains;

- solving problems of induced currents, dynamic or motional, in transient or harmonic time regime;

 - the resolution of skin effect problems in harmonic time regime;

- the development of non-destructive diagnostic techniques;

- the realization and application of stochastic optimization procedures of electromechanical devices;

- the formulation and application of methods for solving coupled electro-thermal problems, in transient regime or in harmonic time regime;

- the circuit modeling of conductor systems;

- the formulation and application of methods for the calculation of electromagnetic fields produced by plasmons in metal nanoparticles;

- the development of computational procedures and algorithms concerning computational electromagnetism;

- the realization of an n-dimensional finite element research code for the calculation of electromagnetic fields, able to carry out all the analyses and calculations required by the research themes mentioned above. This code, called ELFIN, has characteristics of generality, high degree of modularity and simplicity of extension, flexibility and generality of the data structure, and can be used both for the resolution of a specific problem and/or the analysis and electrical modeling of a given system, and for the experimentation of original numerical procedures and the performance of operations of comparison, verification and validation of algorithms and formulations.
